Community Engagement

Making a Difference Together

The Division of Access and Community Engagement (ACE) is committed to building mutually beneficial partnerships that connect Rutgers–New Brunswick to our local communities. Through the Collaborative Center for Community Engagement  and programs with non-profits and agencies, we provide hands-on experiences for participants, while amplifying regional impact.

Collaborative Center for Community Engagement

The Collaborative Center for Community Engagement supports campus outreach efforts through a range of activities and programs that promote ethical social action, recognize diverse human interdependence, and prepare students to be engaged citizens.

Opportunities to Engage

Advancing Community Development (ACD)

ACD participants learn about community health and wellness interventions, non-profit management, and the role of anchor institutions in their communities through this one-semester, community-based learning program. Working in project teams guided by Johnson & Johnson skill-based volunteers and non-profit professionals, students execute community-based projects for local New Brunswick organizations so they can better serve the health-related needs of residents.

Rutgers Bonner Leaders

The Rutgers Bonner Leaders Program at Rutgers–New Brunswick is part of the national Bonner Foundation Network of college students who are committed to community engagement and aiding in finding solutions to societal issues. At Rutgers, Bonner Leaders are involved in every major community (New Brunswick and Piscataway) event as they learn to serve with an orientation to eliciting societal transformation.

Community Tours

The center's Community Tours are an informative and fun way to familiarize the Rutgers–New Brunswick community with its surrounding city neighborhoods. The tours are approximately 90 minutes and are designed for students, faculty, staff, and the community at large to gain an understanding of the city’s history, cultural assets, and major institutions.

RCommunity

RCommunity is an online platform designed to list, find, organize, promote, and document services, while measuring the impact of engagement efforts, including service-learning, philanthropy, volunteerism, and engagement in the community both on and off-campus.

Scarlet Engagement Exploration Day (SEED)

Scarlet Engagement Exploration Day (SEED) is a new connecter event designed for faculty, staff, and students who are involved in community engaged activities. The event provides an opportunity to come together to talk about best practices, what is working, how the institution’s engagement and outreach efforts could be more successful, and how can we share resources so that we can co-create stronger engagement efforts together.
